The WCDMA technology is now well established on the global mobile market. Ericsson had 149 references out of a total of 284 WCDMA agreements (52%) (December 2008).
The HSPA technology has a strong momentum right now. According to GSA, Mar 2009, HSPA networks have been rolled out in 111 countries, spread on all continents. Ericsson has supplied 120 out of 259 launched HSPA networks (46%) (Mar 2009).
Ericsson is powering more than 250 commercial EDGE networks worldwide. The EDGE technology - Enhanced Data Rates for GSM Evolution - is defined as a 3G standard as well. EDGE has become a natural evolution of GSM/GPRS and the majority of WCDMA-HSPA networks combine with EDGE for service continuity and the best user experience. According to GSA, there where 413 operators in 165 countries offering GSM/EDGE services, as per December 2008.
