The WCDMA technology is now well established on the global mobile market. Ericsson had 147 references out of a total of 279 WCDMA agreements (53%) (August 2008).
The HSPA technology has a strong momentum right now. According to GSA, Oct 2008, HSPA networks have been rolled out in 98 countries, spread on all continents. Ericsson has supplied 109 out of 221 launched HSPA networks (49%) (Oct 2008).
Ericsson is powering more than 250 commercial EDGE networks worldwide. The EDGE technology - Enhanced Data Rates for GSM Evolution - is defined as a 3G standard as well. EDGE has become a natural evolution of GSM/GPRS and the majority of WCDMA-HSPA networks combine with EDGE for service continuity and the best user experience. According to GSA, there where 313 operators in 165 countries offering GSM/EDGE services, as per November 2008.
